At the Wholly Handmade market this past weekend, a lovely older woman spent a considerable amount of time chatting with me at my booth. We talked about life, Canadian-made fashion and all the things 💕

She tried on about 10 pieces and was really thinking long and hard about what she loved and what she would wear each capsule wardrobe piece with…

Then she said to me “The way I look at it, I only have this much life left to live (she held up her hand and showed me an inch with her fingers) and if I don’t treat myself now, I never will.” 

At first this made me feel sad of course, but then as I thought about more, I realized it was beautiful and that we all should live life like this. We don’t know how much time we have left, so it’s important to treat yourself now. 

Of course, treats don’t have to be material things, but if you have the extra income like this woman did, then why not? What are you saving your money for? 

We spend our entire lives saving and planning for the future, but what happens when it IS the future? Will we look back and have any regrets? Will we be sad we didn’t take the trips we wished we had went on? Will we regret the risks we didn’t take? 

On a lighter note, I’m all for treating yourself, and so was she! She went home with 4 beautiful pieces that she looked great in. Her face lit up when she tried on the Sherah skirt and I could tell she felt beautiful (she did). This is what makes dressing women amazing.

What I took from this… No matter how old you are, we all love to feel special. So I say, buy the outfit, take the trip, pursue your dreams, you will thank yourself when you only have an “inch left to live” ❤️
